Il Principio del Dubbio_addestrarsi al fallimento is an open research conducted by Didymos (Alessia Certo, Giulia Vannucci) that investigates the notions of mold and cast. The study, starting from the works of the Italian sculptor Giulio Monteverde (1837 – 1917), draws upon the Platonic concept that counterposes ideas and imitations.
Plato’s theory, asserting that ideas are perfect original molds from which many imperfect casts are generated, establishes a one-way relationship that does not allow to reach the original mold through the cast, as the latter is imperfect. Il Principio del Dubbio challenges this centuries-old unidirectional relationship between ideas and matter and observes the physical and logical consequences. The photographic and written opuses by Beatrice Migliorati are further consequences of this investigation. Through the analogic support of photography, she has attempted to expand and question the physical possibility of the so-called copy. The project began as a further research process on the number 6 assumption developed in the first chapter of Tentativo di Dubbio. Assumption number 6 (Tdd cap1): Perfect molds vibrate with a constant rhythm giving rise to equal casts, essence of themselves. These casts, swaying, change the molds into other casts; so that the molds become casts and the casts become molds. Without interruption.
